Why Miniature Herefords

There are many reasons to breed, raise and eat Miniature Herefords.  Our Miniature Polled Herefords have all the advantages of the more common Horned Miniature Herefords with the added benefit of not having horns.

  • Investment Potential -- There are only a thousand or so miniature Herefords in the world  so the potential for a long term "breeders market" is substantial.
  • Less Overhead -- Smaller size and higher feed conversion efficiency means less feed, less land and lighter equipment.
  • Registered Pedigree -- All mini Herefords in the US are registered with the American Hereford Association.
  • Ease of Handling -- Smaller size makes them easier to handle with mature cows weighing 600-1000 pounds (compare to 1200-2000 for full size)
  • Easy Keepers/Efficient feeders -- A 700 pound brood cow can maintain body condition on 1/3 the feed of a 1400 pound full size cow.  Their calves at weaning can be 65% or more of their body weight compared to 35-40% for a full size cow.
  • Disposition -- Miniature Herefords have retained the generally calm and gentle nature of the Hereford breed.
  • Nutrition & Care -- Miniatures have no special nutritional or care needs.
  • Environmental Impact -- Smaller size and weight means less damage to your pastures and corrals.
